CapSU stude tops climate change essay tilt

A STUDENT from the Capiz State University-Dayao campus won the On-the-Spot Essay Writing on Climate Change Provincial level competition.


Josie Ubierna, a college student of CAPSU-Dayao campus, won over 27 other contestants in said competition here conducted by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).


The activity was part of the activities of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Western Visayas in its climate change mitigation and adaptation advocacy.


Dann Lovelle Cortel of CapSU Roxas City main campus won second and Krischelle Silvestre of the College of St. John Roxas placed third.

 

Tuburan National High School principal Rizalina Barruela; Capiz National High School - School of the Future coordinator Gilbert Galagate and The Capiz Times columnist Virgilio Clavel served as judges.


The winners for the said competition will receive P10,000 cash plus trophy and certificate of recognition, P7,000 cash and certificate of recognition and P5,000 cash and certificate of recognition for the first, second and third place, respectively.


The winners will represent the province of Capiz in the Regional Level Competition Oct. 17 in Iloilo City.


According to Western Visayas PIA Regional Director Ma. Janet Mesa, the competition was conceived to serve as a venue whereby the youth can articulate and impart ideas and suggestions on how to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change.


It also seeks to solicit the support of the youth particularly students in coming up with ideas and suggestions on climate change mitigation and adaptation as well as help develop the capability of the youth in tackling climate change issues and concerns with the end goal of helping communities become safer and more resilient.
